Awarness Program On Occossion of World Sparrow Day

On the occasion of World Sparrow Day, the Wildlife and Environment Conservation Society (WECS) Amravati organized an awareness program along with the distribution of Bird Nest and water pots, continuing their annual tradition. This initiative was carried out by setting up a stall at the local Gadgenagar area.

The program was inaugurated by the popular MLA of Amravati, Mrs. Sulbhatai Sanjay Khodke. Social worker Mr. Yogesh Savai, Prof. Dr. Ravindra Sarode, Dr. Jayant Wadatkar and Vice President Dr. Shrikant Warhekar, were present as chief guests. The event coordinator Mr. Saurabh Jawanjal welcomed the guests, while WECS Secretary Dr. Jayant Wadatkar explained the purpose of the initiative and shared details about the programs planned for the organization’s silver jubilee year.

Speaking about the initiative, MLA Sulbha Khodke appreciated the efforts and mentioned that she has also placed bird feeders and water containers at her home, which attract birds and create a refreshing environment. She encouraged citizens to set up water pots and Bird Nest to support WECS's efforts, especially during the summer.

On this occasion, Advocate Rajmeher Nishane, Amey Thakre, Prashant Nikam, Sumit Ambulkar, and Prof. Dr. Anant Wadatkar provided information about bird conservation to visitors at the stall and distributed birdhouses and water pots.

The stall was also visited by several dignitaries, environmental enthusiasts, and bird lovers, including Mr. Sarvesh Marathe, Nilesh Kanchanpure, Prof. Dr. Gajendra Pachlore, Prof. Mohanish Bokhad, Dr. Minakshi Rajput, Dr. Nisha Tayade, former president of Amravati University Employees Credit Society Mr. Deepak Kale, Director Mr. Pravin Padole, Assistant Registrar Mr. Ravindra Sayam, and Mr. Sham Badwaik.

A total of 50 birdhouses and 100 water pots were distributed during the event. Advocate Rajmeher Nishane, Amey Thakre, Prashant Nikam, Sumit Ambulkar, and Saurabh Jawanjal worked tirelessly to make this program a success.

Green Warrior Award and 'Eco Volunteer' Workshop Organized by

Wildlife and Environment Conservation Society and

Melghat Tiger Project Jointly


Amravati: On the occasion of Wildlife Week and the Foundation Day of the Wildlife and Environment Conservation Society (WECS),
an Eco Volunteer Workshop was jointly organized by WECS Amravati and the Melghat Tiger Project at the Kuldhap Auditorium.

Around 70 students from seven colleges in the city participated in the workshop. The program was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.

The chief guest for the event was Ms. Jyoti Banerjee (IFS), Chief Conservator of Forests, Amravati Circle, while Dr. Anjali Deshmukh presided over the function.

Dr. Jayant Wadatkar and Dr. Gajanan Wagh were also present as prominent guests.
At the beginning of the event, Dr. Jayant Wadatkar (Secretary, WECS Amravati & Honorary Wildlife Warden) spoke about the objective of the workshop, student participation, and the presentation of the Green Warrior Award instituted on the occasion of the society’s foundation day.

During the inaugural session, the Green Warrior Award was conferred upon Prof. Gajanan Muratkar, a renownedGrassland expert and mentor known as “India’s Grassman”, for his remarkable contribution to environmental and wildlife conservation.

Additionally, the Best Volunteer Awards were presented to Anand Mohod and Ameya Thakre for their dedicated service.

Dr. Shrikant Warhekar introduced the chief guest Ms. Jyoti Banerjee and gave a brief profile of Prof. Gajanan Muratkar, while Dr. Manjusha Wath read the citation of the Green Warrior Award.

In the second session of the workshop, expert lectures were delivered on the following topics:

Prof. Gajanan Muratkar – Role of Grasslands in Wildlife Management
Dr. Jayant Wadatkar – Tiger Conservation in India: Present Scenario
Dr. Gajanan Wagh – Hornbill Research and Conservation

The workshop was efficiently coordinated by Kiran More, Saurabh Jawanjal, and Adv. Rajmeher Nishane.
Special guests included Sarvesh Marathe from Aranyam, Shantanu Patil from Youth for Nature,
Dr. Ujwala Muratkar, Dr. Vaishali Narnaware, and Varsha Harne, Range Forest Officer.

The program was compered by Mayuri Kathalkar, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Kiran More.
The event received valuable support from including WECS members Sumit Ambulkar, Anand Mohod, Abhijit Patil, Prashant Nikam, and the staff of the Melghat Tiger Project, Varsha Harne (RFO), Forest Guards Reshma Wankhede and Swapnil Bangde.
