About WECS



Wildlife and Environment Conservation Society (WECS) is an NGO dedicated to the Awareness, Research and conservation of wildlife and environment. It involved in the field of bird watching, butterfly, snakes studies and there rescue, vegetation studies, nature photography, nature walk and trekking for environmental awareness etc. Efforts were made to involve students and common people in the activities. Its research programs include monitoring, reviewing bird records and maintaining a checklist. Since most of the members are also engaged in research activities, all the activities of WECS have sound scientific base.

Research on different topics of our members, WECS comes up with lots of work on biodiversity and conservation, with the help of this WECS develops a scientific look. In order to create awareness amongst public, we have started arranging different programmes for schools and college student such as bird watching, Melghat trekking, tree plantation, anti plastic carry bags campaign etc.

During the development work in Amravati city, work of widening roads was started; hundreds and thousands of trees were on the verge of cutting. Our organization with the help of Citizen Forum opposed this act and thus several trees were saved and a proposal of new trees plantation were initiated.

From the last Eleven years with the help traditional idol makers, our organization has been making Ganesh murti out of natural clay and making it available to the ecofriends (customers), now more than 5,000 strong ecofriends which are our regular admirers. WECS is pioneering in Amravati for Ecofriendly Ganesh festival and Clay Idol campaign.

In 2010 our society achieved mile stone in field of ornithology of Vidarbha by organizing successfully 11th Vidarbha Pakshimitra Sammelan as well as series of ornithology workshops. WECS also successfully organized 26th Maharashtra Pakshimitra Sanmelan in January 2013. We regularly published biannual magzine RANVEDH on subject Wildlife and Environmental awareness.

We have more than 200 members (both annaul and Life mamber). We have successfully completed small grant project of NEAC. Renowned Bombay Natural History Society Mumbai also grand us a Research Project on Bird (Forest Owlet) RRCF, Mumbai also grand us project for Olws Research in Melghat, both projects was completed successfully.
